The vehicle tax needs to be paid every year to the government by the vehicle owner is a difficult task and needs to make a day loss and sometimes couldnot get the job done on the same day. Their are four offices in kathmandu valley facilitating for vehicle tax payment.

1) Located at Gurjudhara- This tax office only facilitate two wheeler for all the service such as: renewal, tax payment, registration, zonal interchanges, re-registration, bluebook duplicates and so on.

2) Located at Ekantakuna- This tax office all the vehicles excluding two wheeler for all the service such as: renewal, tax payment, registration, zonal interchanges, re-registration, bluebook duplicates and so on.

3) Located at Sano Bharyang- This tax office facilitates vehicles of all type for their tax payment, renew vehicle, renew route permit, and to get adhoc route permit.

4) Located at Sallaghari- This tax office facilitates vehicles of all type for their tax payment, renew vehicle, renew route permit, and to get adhoc route permit.

The Department of Transportation management has set various tax rates and renewal charges depending upon vehicle engine capacity and vehicle type.

1) Vehicle Tax: 

The vehicle owner needs to pay the tax to government each year within chaitra of the fiscal as per their validity dates. The fine rates for vehicle tax are:

                    a) Within 90 days of expiry-----------------------------              5% Fine

                    b) After 90 before 120 days of expiry------------------              10% Fine

                    c) After 120 days but within same fiscal year----------              20% Fine

                    d) Not paid of earlier fiscal year------------------------             32% Fine

Mandatory clause: Whatever the expiry date is the vehicle owner must have to pay their vehicle tax before Chaitra of the current fiscal year otherwise they are liable for fine incurring from 1st of Baisakh and are:

                     a) Baisakh 1 to Baisakh end------------------------------            5% Fine

                     b) Jestha 1 to Ashar 15-----------------------------------            10% Fine

                     c) Ashar 16 to Same fiscal year---------------------------            20% Fine

                     d) Not paid in the same fiscal year-----------------------            32% Fine

Warning: Please pay your vehicle tax before chaitra if you are having your expiry dates from Chaitra to Ashar in order to avoid fines. For example, if your bluebook is expiring on Magh 2 and later till Asar won't have the oppurtunity as listed above and are subjected to fine of 5% starting from baisakh 1 to baisakh 30, 10% From Jesta 1 to Asar 15 and 20% starting from Asar 16 to asar end and from shrawan fine would be 32%.

2) Vehicle Renewal Charge:

The vehicle owner also needs to pay renewal charges in the tax office which are 100/200/500 for two wheeler/ four wheeler/ others depending upon the vehicle types, within 90 days of expiry dates. This renewal charges whenever not paid within time bond, the vehicle owner are subjected to 100% fine rate.
